Dr. Gabriel Bayes, 91, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014. He was born in the Bronx, New York and then moved to Rockland County settling in Monsey, New York with his wife Ruth where they raised a family and he practiced orthodontics. He led a thriving orthodontic practice for close to 40 years first located in Spring Valley and then in Suffern, New York. Gabriel moved to Monroe Township, New Jersey upon his retirement. Gabriel graduated from City College of New York and New York University's College of Dentistry. He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving with the Ninth Infantry Division in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
He served as a dentist to the troops stationed in Japan from 1946 - 1948. An active volunteer, Gabriel was a past president of The Dental Society of Rockland County and a long-time member of Temple Beth El of Spring Valley. He enjoyed many hobbies including the cultural arts, classical music, the opera, Broadway, photography and current events.
In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, Gabriel is survived by his children Mitchell Bayes of Bayside, New York, Deborah Bayes Ziment of West Windsor, New Jersey, son-in-law Jeffrey Ziment and cherished grandsons Daniel and Jared. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on April 30, 2014 at noon at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ with internment to follow at Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey, 07652.
