Lifelong area resident

George H. Drawbaugh passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. He was born in Red Bank and graduated from Rumson High School. He then went on to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1959, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He worked for NJ Bell Telephone and in 1962 went into the insurance business at the former Connecticut Mutual Life now known as Mass Mutual. Subsequently, he formed George H. Drawbaugh and Associates, an insurance brokerage firm.

George was currently a member and past commodore of both the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club and the North Jersey Yacht Racing Association. He was also a current member of the Root Beer & Checker Club and the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club. He was a former member of the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club. George volunteered with the former United Way and was currently a member of the Little Silver Planning Board where he served for four decades. George was also a former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church @ Red Bank-Tower Hill. He was active on the Little Silver Fire Police.

George was predeceased by his parents, George W. and Winifred "Betty" S. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail; daughter, Lisa Barnes (Gene); sons, George Charles "Chuck" (Mary Beth), and David B. (Holly); and eight grandchildren, Devon, Bryce, Brylin, Bridia,, Kaela, Kellen, Lexi and Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 at the Presbyterian Church @ Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. following the services at the church in Fellowship Hall.
