George L. Hackett

AGE: 73 • South Amboy

George L. Hackett, 73, of South Amboy died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Keansburg, he lived in South Amboy most of his life. Before retiring, he was employed by L.A. Dreyfus Co., Edison as a boiler operator. He was previously employed by Hercules, Inc., Parlin. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, South Amboy. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 45, Perth Amboy and the Knights of Columbus Council 3402, Keyport.

Son of the late Robert and Mildred Hackett, he was also predeceased by his brothers, John and Francis Hackett and his nephew, Robert McCarthy. He is survived by his brothers, Colonel Robert T.G. Hackett, U.S. Army ret. and his wife, Anne of Montgomery, New York and James Hackett and his wife, Diane of Setauket, New York; his sister, Maribeth McCarthy and her husband, Dennis of South Amboy and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 9:45am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals," 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
