Irene "Connie" (Kanyha) Allesandro, 93, entered into eternal life peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2011 with her family by her side at Raritan Health & Extended Care Center in Raritan. Born in Windber, PA, daughter of the late John and Anna (Kovalsky) Kanyha, at five years old her family moved to Manville where she has since been a resident. Irene was a homemaker who passionately cared for her family and her mother & father-in-law. She was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and for many years active with the Manville PTA. During World War II, Irene was a USO volunteer in New Brunswick. Irene worked as a floor lady supervisor in John Rock's Sewing factory in Manville making soldier uniform pants during the war effort. She enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles and watching soap operas. Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband John Allesandro who died on June 5, 1981. Irene and John had joined hands in marriage on September 8, 1946. She was also predeceased by her dear siblings, brothers, John and George Kanyha and sister Pauline Raksa.
Irene leaves behind her loving and devoted daughter & son-in-law, Carol and Ray Ganim of Somerset: dear sister-in-law Mary Kanyha of Atlantic Beach, NC; cherished nieces and nephews, Janice Kanyha, Anita Handing, David Kanyha and Paul Kanyha. She will be deeply missed by her many adored great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Monday, May 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 17 from 8-8:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17 beginning 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville. Irene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
