Spring Lake Heights

James E. Clayton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in his Spring Lake Heights home, where he resided for the past 55 years. Born in 1932 in Asbury Park, and graduating from St. Rose High School in Belmar, Jim worked for the Western Electric Company for 38 years, retiring in 1989 as a Supervisor. Adept at construction, electronics and other handy-man work, he helped numerous family members, friends and neighbors over the years.

He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Frances Dworschak Clayton and survived by his sister-in-law, Sister Luke of Our Lady of Sorrows, Jersey City. Jim and Fran raised their three children, James Clayton Jr. of Northampton, Massachusetts, Deborah Bower of Wayne, PA and Michael Clayton of Bernardsville. Seven grandchildren, Carolyn, Daniel, Briana, Emily, Christopher, Audrey and Adeline will remember him for his love, his quick wit and the giving of his hand-made treasures.

A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 17 at Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Ave., Asbury Park. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. Interment will be in St. Anne's Cemetery, Glendola. In addition to flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center online by searching "MSKCC Giving Pages" and searching "James Clayton" at the bottom of the page.
