AGE: 83 • Warren

Jerry Malanga, 83, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home with his family beside him. The eldest of six, he was born March 6, 1930 in Newark to Nicola and Giuseppina Anglenia Napoliello Malanga. He was raised and resided in Scotch Plains and had lived in Warren for more then 38 years. Jerry, along with his wife, Marian, were the owner's of Malanga Springdale Farm in Warren since 1975. He had previously owned and managed Malanga's Florist of Scotch Plains. In his younger years he had worked as a carpenter until he took over his family's business in 1958. He graduated from Scotch Plains High School in 1949, where he was a stand out athlete in baseball, basketball and football.

Throughout his adult life his passion was playing softball and he was inducted into the N.J. Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2006 for his pitching. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Our Lady of the Mount R.C. Church, Warren. He was a caring and giving person who enjoyed helping his customers and spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife, Marian L. Callahan Malanga whom he married November 20, 1955, his two sons, Nicholas "Nicky" Malanga of Warren, Christopher "Chris" Malanga and his wife, Renee`, of Green Brook, and their child, the joy and light of his life, granddaughter, Valentina Marie Malanga, his brothers Alfonso "Funzie" Malanga who died in 2002, Nicholas Malanga and his wife, Adrienne of Warren, his sisters Helen "Lee" Fantini and her husband, Joseph of Scotch Plains, Joyce Edwards and her husband, Robert of South Carolina, his sister-in-law Elaine Malanga of Milford, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joseph and Muriel Henne of Piscataway, and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at The Mundy Funeral Home, 142 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. The committal service and cremation will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 65 James Street, Edison, NJ 08818.
