John (Jack) E. Heffernan, 89, of Toms River, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Shorrock Gardens Care Center, Brick. Jack was born in Larksville, Pa., son of John T. and Catherine Heffernan. Raised in Larksville, Jack attended Larksville High School and Kings College and later resided in Sayreville, NJ for 30 years before moving to Toms River in 2004. Jack was employed as an accountant for Quinn-Bowdin, Rahway for many years. He was proud to be a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the carrier USS Langley for 3 years in the South Pacific.
Predeceased by his wife, Clara (Niezgoda) Heffernan in 2008 after 60 years of marraige, he is survived by a son, Edward Heffernan of Toms River; and a daughter, Nancy Slovik of Seaside Park. He is also survived by 5 loving grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Jack's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at St. Maximilian R.C. Church, 130 St. Maximilian Lane, Toms River.
