John T. Jaworski

AGE: 92 • Green Brook

John T. Jaworski, 92, of Green Brook, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 in Green Brook with his family at his side. Born in Sayreville he built his home in Clark before moving to Warren and finally Green Brook for the past 25 years. John worked at Hercules, Standard Oil and Hess before eventually retiring as a Refrigeration Mechanic from Bristol Myers Squibb in New Brunswick in 1988. He also owned and operated Stewarts Root Beer Stands in Clark and Warren for many years. Mr. Jaworski was a Radar Man 2nd Class (RD2C) in the Navy serving aboard the USS Spence during World War II and the USS Brinkley Bass & Trathen during the Korean War. His WWII Destroyer Squadron 23 received the Presidential Unit Citation for heroism in action during the Solomon Islands Campaign. John was also awarded the NJ Distinguished Medal Award in 2001 for his combat service. He was a life member of VFW Post 10955 in Green Brook. John played the clarinet in the South River Polish Boys Band performing in parades in NYC and Atlantic City. He later started his own band, Johnny Jawor & his Golden Bells, playing both the sax and clarinet at weddings and other events before going into the Navy. In his spare time John enjoyed the beach, summers at his lake house in Westport, Ontario, working around his home and garden, taking his faithful friend Rudy for walks and spending time with his grandkids.

Mr. Jaworski was the devoted father of Joan Nowicki & her husband Edward of Dunellen, Patricia Jaworski & her life partner Mary Mullan of Clark, and Judy Dieker & her husband Christian of Burlington. The time he cherished most was as a Dzadzi to his five grandchildren, Matthew & Michael Nowicki & Katherine, John and Elizabeth Dieker.

Visiting Sunday 4 - 8 PM.
