Joseph Somma

AGE: 51 • Toms River

Joseph Somma, 51, of Toms River, died Thursday at Community Medical Center, Toms River, with his beloved family by his side. Joseph was employed for 10 years as a chef with Sodexo Foods, Kenilworth. Prior to that, he was employed for 14 years as a chef with Schering Plough, Kenilworth. Joseph was a former coach with the Toms River East Little league, Toms River Youth Soccer Club, and a former high school soccer referee for the Toms River School District. He also was a member of the Schering Plough fire brigade. Born in Naples, Italy, he came to the United States in 1969 where he resided in Kenilworth before moving to Toms River in 1984.

He was predeceased by his father the morning of Joseph's death, Francesco Somma. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Annmarie Morelli; two sons and a daughter, Joseph, Anthony A., and Angela, all at home; his mother, Dominica Carannante, Lewisbury, PA; two brothers, Antonio Somma, Clinton, NJ, and John Somma, Lewisbury, PA; two sisters, Maria Wilt and Pamela Wright, both of Etters, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1-5 pm Thursday and 2-4 & 7-9 Friday at Layton's Home For Funerals, (609) 971-6800, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, Lacey. Relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Saturday at 8 am from the funeral home, hence to St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Forked River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
