MANUEL LUCAS
AGE: 88 OLD BRIDGE
Manuel Lucas, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at his home, with his loving family at his side. Born in Gafanha Da Boa Hora, Vagos, Portugal, he immigrated to the United States 35 years ago, residing in South River, Sayreville and then Old Bridge. Before his retirement he was employed as a mason for Cosmos Concrete in Sayreville and prior to that for Continental Construction in Forked River.
He is predeceased by his wife, Rosa C. Silva, in 2003. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Maria Parciosa and Joao Costa of Canada, Rosa C. and Claudino Lucas of Old Bridge, Dinis and Delcina Lucas in Gafanha Da Boa Hora, Portugal, and Manuel and Rosa Lucas in Sayreville; his sister, Rosa Castelhano in Portugal; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 9 at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10 from the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Mary of Ostrabrama R.C. Church, South River, with burial to follow in Gafanha Da Boa Hora, Portugal.
