Margaret Whyte Donnelly Obituary
Margaret Whyte Donnelly

AGE: 91 • Lakewood

Margaret Whyte Donnelly, 91, of Leisure Park, Lakewood died Monday June 2, 2014 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Kearny to the late Matthew and Margaret MacLachlan Whyte, Marge was married for 67 years to her husband, Edward Taylor Donnelly, who predeceased her in 2012. In the 1940's, Marge worked at RCA in Harrison and sang at many company functions and War Bond Rallies. She spent the majority of her working years at De Vries Brothers Printing in Saddle Brook. Marge and Eddie lived in Kearny, North Arlington, and Harrison, before moving to Clifton in 1956. There, they raised their family and shared many fun times with the "Fordham Road Gang". During those 28 years, she was an active member of St. Philip the Apostle Church and enjoyed volunteering at the weekly Bingo games. Her Roman Catholic faith was a constant source of strength and comfort throughout her life. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Trinity Parish in Harwich as well as at Leisure Park. For over 45 years, she was an active member of the Al-Anon community. All her loved ones treasure the beautiful afghans she handmade for them. Over 30 years, she crocheted more than 450 with the majority being donated to those in need. Mom was the guiding star of our family and we will miss her terribly. She will always be in our hearts. She was a blessing beyond measure to all of us. Marge and Eddie retired to Harwich Port on Cape Cod in 1984. And how she loved the Cape! They made wonderful friends and were founding members of the "Bank Street Beachnuts". For many years, they volunteered at the Family Pantry in Harwich and at the local cable station, Channel 18. She was a co-host of "Community Journal", a weekly show highlighting life and activities in the Harwich area. Returning to New Jersey in 2006, they lived in Leisure Knoll, Manchester. In 2010, they relocated to Leisure Park, Lakewood. That move brought new friends. Marge served a term as Hospitality Chairperson, a perfect match for her outgoing personality. She was predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Hamill, Mary Krulik and Myna Whyte; and a great-grandson, Braeden Edward Farkas. Surviving are their 2 sons, Jack and his wife, Linda of Toms River and Edward Jr. of Whiting; daughter, Margaret Farkas and her husband, James, of Willow Street, PA and brother-in-law, James & wife Muriel Donnelly. Marge and Eddie were the beloved Nana and Pop-Pop to 10 grandchildren and the loving Nanny and Poppy to 16 great-grandchildren and 5 nieces & 2 nephews. She is, also, remembered by her dear BFF, Marilyn Ballis. Visitation is Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Thursday 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lakewood with interment to follow at Brigadier Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers please make your donations to the Family Pantry of Cape Cod 133 Queen Anne Rd, Harwich, MA 02645. And we'll remember her usual parting words - "Be good now - ya' hear!"
