Marie N. V. McCarthy Kugelman, 89, of Middletown, NJ, was released from her suffering on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in West New York, NJ and was raised in Hoboken, NJ and Port Ewen, NY. Marie worked as a Secretary for the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services in Asbury Park and other locations for many years before her retirement in 1994. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middletown and an adorer at the Adoration Chapel. Marie was very involved in local food pantries, specifically the Barn for the Poorest of the Poor. She was a member of the Breakfast Club, which was her second family. She loved life, friends, family, music, books, and the Lord. Our sweet memories of her are our consolation.
Surviving are children: son, Robert W. Kugelmann, Jr. and his wife Laurette Dekat Kugelmann of Dallas, TX and their children, Verity, Colin, Kateri, and Andrew Kugelmann; daughter, Joan Marie Kugelmann and her husband Arthur H. Phair of Middletown; son, Timothy Kugelman and his wife Helen Bungert of Howell and their children, Rachel and Megan Kugelman; daughter, Maryann Fisher of Wellsboro, PA and her children, Jennifer Fisher and Amy Orr as well as her grandchildren, Matthew, Corinne, Cadence, and Kindred; daughter, Eileen K. McCluskey of Watertown, MA and her daughter, Maeve McCluskey; and daughter, Kathleen M. Kugelmann and her husband Alan Rappaport of Sherborn, MA; her sister, Joan Twomey, of Caldwell and 5 nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy McCarthy of Middletown and 12 nieces and nephews and their spouses and 50 grandnieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert W Kugelman, Sr. who passed in 1991; her parents, Joseph Aloisius McCarthy and Viola Grimes McCarthy; her brother, Joseph Aloisius McCarthy, Jr.; her brother-in-law, William Twomey; and her nephew, William Twomey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 9:15 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
