Martin F. Collins
AGE: 85 • Somerset
Mr. Martin F. Collins passed away surrounded by family on Monday evening at Bridgeway Care Center in Hillsborough. He was 85 years old.
Mr. Collins was born in Hoboken NJ and grew up in Jersey City. He graduated from Regis High School in New York City. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Cooper Union in New York City, and a Masters Degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. He was employed by General Foods and retired from Engelhard Corporation as a Chemical Engineer.
Mr. Collins moved to Somerset in 1965. He was a founding parishioner of St. Matthias church in Somerset and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a nature lover and enjoyed trips to Lake Hopatcong, but most of all enjoyed time with his family.
Mr. Collins was pre deceased by his son Martin Collins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Roberta Collins of Somerset, and their children: Roberta Nieman and her husband Donato of Kendall Park, Linda Cruz and her husband Dan of North Carolina, and Steven Collins and his wife Bonnie of South Orange. He is also survived by his siblings, Winifred Kenny of Jersey City and Charles Collins of Bloomfield; three grandchildren: Anthony Geremia and his wife Christie, and Zachary and Jacob Nieman; and a great grandson, Mason Geremia.
Services will begin on Saturday at 8:30 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset, followed by a 9 AM funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park. Visiting will be held from 2-4 and from 7-9 PM on Friday at the Gleason Funeral Home.
