Mary Armstrong Obituary

Mary Ella Armstrong

Plainfield

Mary Ella Armstrong transitioned from her life on earth to her life in heaven on January 26, 2017 at JFK Medical Center, Edison, NJ. Born in Halifax County, NC, Mary was one of 10 children, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She moved up north and lived in Plainfield, NJ for more than 65 years. While residing in Plainfield, Mary married Clarence Armstrong and raised four beautiful daughters, Jacqueline, Loretta, Michiko and Adrianne who she loved and cared for deeply.

As a congregant of Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield, Mary devoted her life to caring for her loved ones, making all of them feel equally loved. She was always helping others and giving of her time unselfishly. She was a hard working employee of RCA in Somerville, NJ for over 30 years. She was generous in everything she did. Mary loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was famous for three special dishes, lasagna, sweet potato pie (with and without coconut) and apple pie.

Mary was a strong, multi-talented woman. In addition to being a great cook, Mary was excellent at arts and crafts. Many people have a least one item that Mary either sewed, knitted, crocheted, or quilted. She enjoyed going to the Plainfield Senior Citizen's Center where she participated in a quilting class and made beautiful blankets and various accessories. Mary was an avid reader who enjoyed reading romance novels. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, watching television and movies.

Mary Ella Armstrong will be missed beyond measure, but she has left behind a treasure of special memories which will live on forever. She is predeceased by 2 daughters, Loretta Jones and Michiko Gibson; her mother Anna hunter and father Robert Jones; siblings Nure, Claudius, Wesley, Owen, Velma, Victoria, Corentha and Ethel and her former husband Clarence Armstrong.

Surviving are daughters Jacqueline Brant (Leonard) and Adrianne Beverly (James); grandchildren Tyrone Brant, Tracey Brant-Williams (Ronald), David Gibson, Jr., Donte Jones-Pitts, Tyshawn Beverly and Tishahnah Beverly; great grandchildren Ayanna Brant and Nailah Williams; brother Wilbert Jones and a host of loving relatives, friends and acquaintances.

A private memorial service celebrating her life will be held in Piscataway, NJ.

I will miss, Ms. Mary very much. She helped me so much in the quilting class. She was also from the same town my mother came from. She knew my mother's family very well. To know her was to love her. She will be greatly missed. Love you Ms. Mary.
