Mary Louise Richey Hobbs, 84, of Manahawkin, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, after a brief battle with brain cancer. Mary Lou was born Feb. 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from Allegheny High School in 1945 and attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University) as an art student. Mary Lou worked for 50 years as a travel agent in Pittsburgh and throughout central New Jersey. Mary Lou was a Christian and her strong faith was passed to her children and grandchildren.
Mary Lou is survived by a daughter, Alison Chambers and son-in-law, Peter Chambers of Charleston, with whom she made her home for the last several months; grandchildren, James McBurney and his wife Carissa, Ann McBurney, and Paul McBurney, all of Charleston, and Casey McDevitt of Barnegat, NJ; and her brother-in-law, William C. Pefferman and his four children, William A. Pefferman, Diane B. Chaldaras, James R. Pefferman, and Suzan L. Highland, and their families. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Liam.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, William and Elvira Richey; her sister, Barbara Richey Pefferman; and a daughter, Cynthia Hobbs McDevitt.
Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Great Commission Fellowship, 2740 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston. Mary Lou wished to be cremated. Her ashes will be buried near her parents' and sister's resting places at the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery in Allison Park, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennewa Drive, Charleston, WV, 25311, where Mary Lou was treated with much grace and kindness.
