Michael passed away peacefully at his home leaving behind his lovingly devoted father Michael Gunther of Howell, NJ, his mother Maryanne Costello Hurley, her husband James Hurley of Forked River and a brother Christopher, his wife Michelle, and nephew Aidan of Bayville. Michael also leaves behind a paternal grandmother Frances Gunther, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and his dog Sasha. Michael was predeceased by fiancée "the love of his life" Lisa Read House, grandfather John Gunther and grandparents Margaret and Edward Costello.
Michael was born and raised in Howell where he attended school and the Church of St. Veronica. He had a newspaper route, was a lifeguard, and participated in numerous sports; baseball, pop warner football, karate, and swimming. He attended Monsignor Donovan, Toms River for three years then moved to Brielle and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1995. He worked for Rays Well Drilling & Service as a well driller's assistant then moving on to become a Journeymen Carpenter with Local 225. In 1997, Michael became a licensed pump installer with Michael Gunther & Sons, working by his father's side with aspirations of running the repair side of the business. Michael had a passion for fresh and saltwater fishing, was an avid scuba diver and hunter, enjoyed shooting pool, and working out at Gold's Gym in Howell. He was a loving son and brother whose warm smile and loving and gentle manner will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday 5-9 PM with religious services at 7:30 PM, and Thursday 10-11 AM at Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals, 412 Main St., Toms River, NJ 08753. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River. Condolences can be sent to: www.carmonabolenfh.com
