Ezra Osborne "Osie" Thorne entered Heaven peacefully, surrounded with love, on Monday, May 14th. Osie grew up in West Orange, moving to Keyport in 1948 when he married his Valentine Billie 63 years ago. He was a Boy Scout for 19 years then Scoutmaster and life member. Osie served in the U.S. Navy and Marines as a 1st Class Pharmacist Mate in World War II and the Korean War. He was the Superintendent of the Sunday School at Calvary and St. John's United Methodist Churches. Usher, Past Treasurer, Monday morning counter, and life member of St. John's. President of the Keyport Grammar School PTA, Past Commander and life member of VFW 4247 & Raritan Post American Legion. "Rosebud" was a life member of the Middletown Lions Club, Past Treasurer, President & Melvin Jones recipient. Osie was the owner of Koch Florist & Gifts from 1961-1988 and continued to work holidays enjoying the clients. His most recent ministry was building birdhouses for the Jersey Shore Workcamp residents. He loved baking cookies, jigsaw puzzles, poolside pinochle games, and family Sundays. Osie's greatest joy was being with family and dear friends, beloved wife Bertha "Billie" Kotz, precious daughter Gail Bechtoldt, and devoted son Bill Bechtoldt, cherished grandchildren Karrie Jayne Johnson and Joshua, Jayme Osborne Bechtoldt and Kiersten, adored great-grandchildren Kyle, Tyne, Ezra, Connor & Kyra Jayne, dedicated nieces Karen Gethard & Kathy Roberts, and adopted daughter Sherry Hill, Brown family nieces & nephews Douglas, Patty, Kenneth, Barbara, Michael, Debbie, and Dale Cowley, brother-in-law Bob Cowley, husband of deceased sister Lovirn.

Services will be offered at St John's United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Cemetery, Union, NJ. Donations may be made to the Jersey Shore Work Camp, 1870 Highway 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 in honor of Osie. Donations will help Jersey Shore families in need.
