Phyllis San Antonio Obituary

(Asbury Park Press)

PHYLLIS J. SAN ANTONIO
AGE: 95 LONG BRANCH
Phyllis J. San Antonio, 95, of Long Branch, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at home. Phyllis was owner of Seven Sisters Embroidery and Olympic Embroidery, Inc, both in NYC. Olympic Embroidery specialized in a double sided embroidery technique so both sides of the flag read correctly. In addition to making the star fields for the United States flag, the company was noted for its military, Department of Defense and Presidential flags. Most noted of this accomplishment was the flag placed on the moon by Neil Armstrong during the first man landing in 1969 and the presidential flag for the 1976 bi-centennial, which is now on display in Long Branch City Hall. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Phyllis summered in Long Branch for over 50 years before moving here permanently after her retirement in 1994. She was a communicant of St. Michael's RC Church, West End.
Phyllis was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Fierro, Yolanda Mancari and Josephine Bailey. She is survived by three sisters, Louise San Antonio, Rose Santantonio and Helen Butera, 10 nieces and nephews and 8 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 4-7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue, (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. Funeral, Saturday, 9:00 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Michael's RC Church, West End, Long Branch. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Michael's Church, 800 Ocean Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740.
