Robert P. Polon, 80, of Spotswood, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family .
Born in South River, Bob was a lifelong resident of Spotswood. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service time, Bob spent the next 45 years working as a commercial carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1006 of Milltown, retiring in the late 90's. He was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood and the Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council 4907, as well as a member of the Spotswood American Legion Post 253. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and he also enjoyed salt-water fishing. After his retirement, Bob became a master carpenter and woodworker and continued building things for friends and family, but what he loved to do most was to spend time with his family and grandchildren.
Predeceased by his daughter, Denise Esola in 2011, and his siblings, James Polon, Esq. and Gloria Mosakowski, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Polon of Spotswood; his daughters, Donna Polon of Manalapan and Janette Polon-Ramirez and her husband, Norbert Ramirez, of Sayreville; his grandchildren, John J. and Christian Blackmire, Robert and Lauren Meeker and, Matthew Ramirez; his great-grandchildren, Kyle, Sara and Dana Blackmire, and; several nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 AM Tuesday from Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood, with a 10:15 Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
