Robert Kubey Obituary
AGE: 65 • HIghland Park
Robert William Kubey, 65, died September 20 at his Highland Park home after a long illness.
He was born in Berkeley, CA. Dr. Kubey earned a B.A. from the Univ. of California, Santa Cruz; M.A. and Ph.D. from The Univ. of Chicago. In 1986 he joined the faculty of the Dept. of Communication of Rutgers Univ., later moving to the Dept. of Journalism and Media Studies. His first book, Television and the Quality of Life, with M. Csikszentmihalyi, led to a later interest in media education, so that people would be "literate consumers" of the mass media they viewed.
Predeceased by his father, Dr. Sidney Kubey, Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Lewert Kubey, and sons, Benjamin and Daniel; his mother, Joan Wise Kubey; sister Linda Kubey Hellman; brothers Craig and Kenneth Kubey; and 6 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 3:30 p,m, at The Unitarian Society, 176 Tices Lane, East Brunswick, N.J.

I will miss Bob very much. Many fond memories of adventures we shared in our years at El Cerrito High and UC Santa Cruz and beyond.

So sorry to learn of Bob's passing. We worked together for many years when he was director of the MCIS Program at SCI. We both enjoyed our professional

Dear Kubey Family,
I want you to know that the CIT Class of 1969 has been circulating notes today since we learned of Bob's passing. Bob was a cherished member of our CIT class and so many have been expressed their memories of Bob the lovely summer we were together. His intelligence and wit were brought up by many of our class. I last saw Bob at our college reunion where we sat together and shared updates on family and work. I remember being in your home and meeting family. Our hearts are heavy learning of Bob's illness and his passing. Please know that you are all in our hearts and that his memory lives in so many of his old friends in California.
Deepest sympathies to you all. May his memory be a blessing.
