Samuel Fallivene, 86, of Toms River, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, in the comfort of his own home. Sam was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1988. He held the record for being the longest serving Letter Carrier since 1816. He was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years. Charlotte (Churchill) and by his second wife of 17 years, Genevieve (Buttacavoli). He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Bayville VFW Post 9503, American Legion #129 and the Toms River Elks Lodge 1875.
Surviving are his son, Samuel Jr. and his wife Helen; his daughter, Carol DiGiacomo and her husband Joseph. He is also survived by his two sisters, Marie Purcell and Beatrice Butkus; his four cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Joseph, Nicholas and Michelle; and his great-granddaughter, Krista.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. A mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13 at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church, Toms River; arrive at the funeral home 9 a.m. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield will follow.
