Shirley Fried Obituary

Shirley Fried

AGE: 82 • Plainfield

Shirley Fried, age 82, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the J.F.K Medical Center in Edison, NJ. Mrs. Fried was born and raised in South River, NJ, where she graduated high school as the Salutatorian. She went on to study at Douglass College in New Brunswick. She has lived in Plainfield since her marriage to Murray Fried in 1952. Shirley taught for 25 years at Maxson Junior High School in Plainfield before happily retiring in 1992. She enjoyed weekly trips to Atlantic City with her husband for many years and had a big circle of friends she was always close with. She loved her weekly mahjong games as well as the New York Times Crossword Puzzle (she never bothered with the easier Monday through Wednesday editions). She looked forward to the various times of day her children and grandchildren made their ritual phone calls and loved more than anything spending time with her loving family.

She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Murray Fried in 2001. Surviving are her adoring son, Kenneth Fried and his wife Stephanie of Bethesda MD and their sons, Joshua and William; her loving daughter, Judith Kahn of Marlboro NJ and her children, Randi, Daniel, and Benjamin; her precious great-grandchildren, Noah and Ezra Greenhouse of Highland Park; her loving brother and sister-in-law, Nathan and Sally Hindes of New Brunswick; and her wonderful sister-in-law, Florence Fried of Somerset.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth St., Plainfield, NJ with Rabbi Moshe Samber officiating. The interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge NJ. To send condolences please visit www.higginsfuneralhome.com.
