Susan E. (Mathews) DeChirico, 71, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Easton, PA, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Towson, MD, daughter of the late Vincent and Rosella (Sabre) Mathews, she spent her childhood in Indianapolis IN, and her teens in Caldwell, NJ graduating from Caldwell HS. She married her husband of fifty years, Patrick DeChirico in September of 1963 and eventually settled and raised a family in Delaware Township in 1980. In 1962, Susan was 1st runner up in the Ms. Somerset County Pagent which is where she met her husband who was one of the judges. Susan was a registered nurse, graduating from Somerset Nursing School in 1963. She worked as a nurse for 30 years in private practices and private duty nursing. It was her passion to help others. In 1993, she retired to become a full time grandmother which became the only job she truly loved taking care of her eleven grandchildren. In between watching grandchildren and taking care of her family she loved to cross-stitch and ring bells with the Three Bridges Reformed Church Bell Choir.
Besides her parents, Susan was predeceased by a dear sister Barbara Fody of Doylestown PA. Susan leaves behind her beloved husband of fifty years, Patrick DeChirico with whom she raised four loving children; Ron DeChirico and his wife Rhonda of Williamsburg, VA, Kevin DeChirico and his wife Dawn of Yardley, PA, Kathleen Richardson and her husband Brian of Hopewell, NJ, and Christine Meyer and her husband Andrew of Hillsborough, NJ. Her eleven grandchildren will keep her memory alive in all that they do. In addition, Susan has two dear sisters, Rose Tanner of Indianapolis, IN and Patricia Cournoyer of Mansfield, MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Monday, September 16 from 4-8 p.m. with the funeral service being held at 7 p.m. with Fr. Jack of St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church officiating. At the family's request, memorial contributions may be made in Susan's memory to the
