Thomas G. Thompson

Thomas G. Thompson, 69, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Thomas was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late George and May Thompson. He resided in Metuchen for the past 42 years. He was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral and a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War serving in Alaska.

Thomas worked for Lucent Technologies in Manhattan as an Electrical Technician for 40 years retiring in 2003. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Edison serving as a Faithful Navigator. Thomas was also a member of the American Legion Clara Barton Post in Edison. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Country Promenaders Dancing Group. He was quick to make friends, always had a kind word or joke to tell, and loved his family and friends dearly.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Mary (Brosnan) Thompson; 3 daughters, Catherine O'Connell and her husband John of Novato, CA; Maura Thompson of Jersey City and Elizabeth Thompson of Metuchen; his sister, Eileen Thompson and her husband Eugene Panhorst of Manhattan, NY; and one granddaughter, Brigid O'Connell.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 9:45 am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue, Metuchen followed by a 10:15 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. Entombment will be in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday, March 14th from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
