William Ciampa

AGE: 87 • Somerset

William "Bill" Antonio Ciampa, age 87, departed this life peacefully on Friday March 15, 2013 at his home in Somerset. Born in Westpoint, NY Mr. Ciampa lived in New York City before moving to Franklin Township where he has resided since 1932.

He served our country faithfully in the Pacific Theatre in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Ciampa was one of the original Police officers of Franklin Township, joining the force in 1958. Positions held during his career included crime prevention, work in the juvenile bureau, and narcotics enforcement. He was also responsible for evidence and record keeping and was awarded honors in marksmanship and was recognized statewide for his shooting skills. He retired in 1988 as Detective Sergeant.

Bill enjoyed volunteering as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 56 in Franklin Township. Having built his own home, he was mechanically inclined and possessed the ability to repair anything from electronics to carpentry. He was a spiritual man as well, finding peace in reading the Bible daily. Bill enjoyed gathering with his family and friends and was active in the Franklin Township Seniors as well as maintaining memberships with various fraternal organizations such as the VFW, American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose in the Somerset area.

Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Ethel Ciampa, he is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ann Chernick Ciampa and his son; William Ciampa of Gettysburg, PA., his sisters; Roseann Grieco and her husband Frank of North Brunswick and Gloria Kamenz of Milltown along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 and on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. A service will begin on Thursday at 11 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home. Subsequent interment will be at Franklin Memorial Park. Contributions in Mr. Ciampa's memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
