Zelphine Gumbs Obituary
AGE: 83 • Linden
Zelphine Violet Gumbs, 83, died Sunday, July 10, 2011,
at Delaire Nursing and Conv. Center, Linden. Born in Anguilla, W.I., she resided in Avenel before moving to Linden. She was employed at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, Perth Amboy; member of the Senior Choir; Missionary Society; member the the Quarterly Conference Secretary; The Seasoned Saints; and Sons and Daughters of Anguilla.
Surviving are six children, Delta Peterson-Merien of Curacao, Verna Hazell of Perth Amboy, Maureen Peterson-Kenney of Piscataway, Uriel Peterson of Curacao, Russell Peterson of Rahway, and Myrna Bernadette Peterson of Avenel; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Rose Gumbs of Anguilla, Albina Gumbs of Curacao, Winifred Gumbs of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Vincent Gumbs of Encino, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The viewing will be from 9 a.m. Saturday, July 16 until the service at 11 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, 68 Commerce St., Perth Amboy. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 18 at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. James AME Zion Church, 68 Commerce St., Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. Arrangments are by Anderson Funeral Service, 201 Sandford St., New Brunswick.
