Regina A. "Jean" Therkelsen, of Colonia died Wednesday, February 12th at home. She was 71. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she lived in Colonia for the past 42 years. As an active member of St. John Vianney RC Church, Colonia, Jean served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lazarus Minister and a CCD teacher. She also served as a volunteer at the JFK Medical Center in Edison as a Eucharistic Minister, the Rahway Hospital Hospice and the Henry Inman Library. She served as a Cub Scouts Den Mother and a volunteer with the Colonia Youth Soccer Association. Most importantly, she was a loving wife and devoted mother of three sons. As a young adult, she enjoyed skiing, sailing and the outdoors.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years, John Therkelsen; sons and daughters-in-law, John & Sara of Atlanta, Georgia, Dave & Julie of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, and Rob of Quincy, Massachusetts; brothers, Kevin Cassidy of Orleans, Massachusetts and Paul Cassidy of Sycamore, Illinois; and sister, Kay Peischel of New Paltz, New York.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17th at 9 AM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. John Vianney RC Church, Colonia. Cremation will be held privately. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her loving memory can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. John Vianney Church, 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia, New Jersey 07067.
