Maureen McGrath Loughlin, who was born on August 21, 1934 to Peter & Mary McGrath, and her husband Matthew J. Loughlin who was born August 20, 1934 to Matthew & Mary Loughlin, passed away peacefully in their sleep surrounded by their loving family. Maureen passed on Sunday February 23, 2014 and Matthew passed on Tuesday February 25, 2014. Both born in New York City, they married on September 8, 1956 spending 57 years of marriage together. Maureen was a retired banker who was employed at Penn Federal Savings in Sayreville and Matthew was a retired elevator construction worker through Local 1 of the International Union of Elevator Constructors in Manhattan. Maureen and Matthew were active member of Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville where they were both Eucharistic ministers and devoted their lives to a number of charitable causes including the Pro Life movement. Additionally, they were members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and actively worked with the Action Pregnancy Center in New Brunswick and Fish Inc., an organization dedicated to helping the poor, the elderly and the homeless.
Maureen was predeceased by her parents and her sister Kitty. Matthew was predeceased by his parents and his brother Jack. Surviving are their children and their spouses, Matt & Maggie, Peter & Ina and Denise & Rich Cumiskey. They are also survived by their seven grandchildren, Matthew, Conor, Liam, Sarah, Tom, Kelli and Mollie. Maureen is also survived by her sister Gerri McGrath. Matthew is also survived by his sisters Mary Paulson and Theresa Loughlin and his brother Roger Loughlin. They are also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:15am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin, followed by a 9am mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church in Sayreville with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Maureen's & Matthew's name be made to FISH Inc. 456 New Market Road, Piscataway, N.J. 08855.
