John R. Norek, 67, of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway. Born in Perth Amboy, John had resided in Aberdeen for the past 35 years. John was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) and received his Masters degree from Monmouth University. He was an engineer with AJ Celiano in Cranford for many years. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. John was a former basketball coach at St. Mary's in South Amboy for 10 years, proudly coaching his three sons.
He is predeceased by his parents, John P. and Jean Norek. Surviving are his loving wife of 41 years, the former Karen Delaney; his children, Sean and his wife Amanda of Chatham, Aubrey Minor and her husband John of Freehold, Brendan and his fiancé Danielle Gaffney of Red Bank, and Kyle of Aberdeen; his cherished grandsons, Jack and Liam Minor, Emmet and Owen Norek and 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Calling hours will be from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Sunday, March 2 at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin. Funeral services will be 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 4 from the funeral home with a 9:30 a.m. funeral mass to follow at St. Mary's R.C. Church in South Amboy. A private cremation will follow.
