Thomas Charles Shreve died on March 8 at the age of 93. He is remembered by his family, friends and colleagues as an honest, caring and joyful man with a great sense of humor and high sense of integrity. Tom was born and raised in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, NY. He graduated from Cornell University with an Engineering degree in 1941 and then served in the Air Force as an engineering officer in WWII. After the war, Tom had success as an engineer and management consultant. Desiring less travel time, Tom embarked on a new career in production engineering working first for GE and finally 20 years for Ciba-Geigy.
Tom was very athletic and loved skiing, golf and tennis. He traveled extensively both for personal pleasure and for business, and he documented his travels with beautiful landscape photographs. He was also an accomplished wood carver. In his later years, he enjoyed ping pong, writing, photography and managing his investments.
Tom always said he was lucky in love. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Richards in 1953. After her death in 1998, Tom moved from their home in New Canaan, Connecticut to Arbor Glen Retirement Community in Bridgewater Township. There he met and married Barbara Ullom. For 15 years, Tom was an active and loving member of Barbara's extended family.
A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held in the Arbor Glen auditorium 2pm March 29, 2014. In lieu of flowers Barbara requests making donations to the "Friend-to-Friend" Fund at Arbor Glen, 100 Monroe St., Bridgewater, N J.
