Dr. Glenn E. Jacoby

Dr. Glenn E. Jacoby, a general surgeon who practiced

in Somerset and New Brunswick throughout his long career in private practice, died March 12, 2014, at his home in Tewksbury. He was 81. The cause of death was transverse myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord.

Dr. Jacoby, who grew up in Forty Fort, Pa., lived in Bridgewater, Tewksbury and Barnegat Light.A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dickinson College, he earned his medical degree from Temple Medical School in Philadelphia and served a four-year surgical residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He passed his boards and was certified to practice surgery by the American College of Surgeons, where he maintained membership throughout his career. He also belonged to the New Jersey Medical Society.

When he entered private practice, he maintained offices in New Brunswick and Somerville and performed surgery at St. Peter's and Somerville medical centers. Dr. Jacoby loved to play golf, study history and travel. After he retired, he applied his well-trained hands to model shipbuilding and spent many hours making a succession of meticulously detailed sailing ships.

Dr. Jacoby was born in Lebanon, Pa., June 16, 1932, to Glenn E. Jacoby Sr. and Ruth Kirby Jacoby. Both parents are deceased. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Blackman Jacoby of Tewksbury, N.J., and four children: Susan Jacoby Clark of Baltimore, who is married to. Robert Clark; Nancy Jacoby Koestler, married to Paul Koestler, OF Yardley, Pa; Elizabeth Jacoby Pender, married to Thomas Pender, of Yardley, Pa.; and Glenn G. Jacoby of Hillsborough, N.J., married to Melissa Jacoby; and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Raritan Valley Country Club, 747 Route 28, Bridgewater, with a luncheon to follow. Arrangements by the Bruce C.
