Walter E. Lapp, Sr. died Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home in Audubon, Pennsylvania. He was 86. Born in Linden, NJ he had lived in North Brunswick before moving to Audubon three and a half years ago. He was owner and operator of the North Brunswick Gulf Service Station for 50 years. Mr. Lapp was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in East Brunswick. He had served as a corporal in the 2nd Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, the VFW, Post #911 of Franklin Park and the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post # 25 in Milltown.
He was active in the North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company #2 since 1960 having held all offices. He served as township chief in 1970. He was a life and charter member of the Fire Prevention Bureau and a life member of the NJ Volunteer Chiefs Association, the NJ State Chiefs Association, the NJ State Fireman's Association and the NJ State Exempt Association.
Surviving are his wife Jathina Grey Kisner Lapp; his son Walter E. Lapp, Jr. and his wife Judy of South Brunswick; his daughter Ruth A. Rodakis and her husband Matthew of Berwyn, Pennsylvania; his sister Evelyn L. Bea of Alexandria, Virginia; and four grandchildren - Joseph P. Lapp, Steven C. Frey, Megan A. Frey and Katelyn G. Frey.
Funeral services will be 9:30 AM Friday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by an 11:00 AM service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 568 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Burial will follow in Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
