AGE: 61 • Spotswood

Thomas Joseph Rowe, 61, of Spotswood, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in New Brunswick.

Born in Rahway, Tom was raised in Clark and lived in Elizabeth for many years before settling in Spotswood 18 years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Shenandoah and the USS John King. He was a machinist for nearly 35 years, retiring in 2010. Tom was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Immaculate Conception Council 4907 of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion Post 253 and, he was a past president of the men's auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4589, all of Spotswood.

Predeceased by his parents, William and Margaret Rowe, he is survived by his wife, Mary Rowe, of Spotswood; his son, Thomas Rowe and his wife, Shannon, of Carteret; his step-sons, Stephen Kovacs and his wife, Lillian, of Whitehouse Station and Joseph Kovacs and his wife, Esther, of Hightstown; his four siblings, Arline Sargent, Linda, Robert and Joseph Rowe, all of Florida; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his niece and nephew, Kim Utesch and Christopher Sargent, and; a grandson, William Kovacs.

Cremation was private. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 22nd, from 12 to 2 PM for a Memorial Service at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. A Liturgy will be offered together with military honors beginning at 1:30 PM during the visitation.
