Salvatore L. Candela, Jr., age 72 of the Parlin section of Sayreville passed away Sunday, March 23rd 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Newark, he had resided in Parlin for the past 45 years. Mr. Candela served in the US Army National Guard for 40 years and worked at the Training Center in Sea Girt as the Facilities Engineer before retirement. He was a member of the Sayreville Planning Board, a Past President of the Sayreville High School Touchdown Club and Assistant Scout Master for the Sayreville Boy Scout Troop 97. He was an avid fisherman, who also enjoyed model trains, gardening, and 50's music. In addition, he was a history buff with a special interest in the Civil War and World War II.
He is predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Phyllis and his Uncle Loreto. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Lorraine Przemielewski, his son Christopher and his wife Patricia of East Norrton, PA and his daughter Carisa Mainiero of Parlin.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm , with a religious service at 8pm at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane in Parlin. Burial will follow on Monday March 31st 2014 at 10:30am at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Salvatore's name to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
