John R. Salerno, Sr.

John R. Salerno, Sr., 66, of Colonia, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 11, 2014 at RWJ Hospital at Rahway. He was born in Culver City, CA, was formerly of Perth Amboy, and has resided in Colonia for the last 20 years. He was a retired union carpenter with Local # 821 of Springfield for over 25 years, before retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of the Good Shepherd Parish at Most Holy Rosary Church in Hopelawn, was an avid outdoorsman, loved going to Atlantic City and was an excellent cook.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Amanda Salerno, who died in 1986. He leaves behind his four children, Benjamin L. Salerno and his wife, Irma, of Perth Amboy, Angela M. Salerno of Perth Amboy, Charlotte B. Salerno-Trout and her husband, Donald of Perth Amboy and John R. Salerno, Jr. and his wife, Veruschka of Perth Amboy; his eight grandchildren, Ryan, Rebecca, Christopher, Sarah, Benjamin, Gabriella, Giovanni, and Brianna; his sister, Rosemary of Edison; his brother, Michael Salerno of Arizona; his fiance of 26 years, Janet A. Smith, with whom he resided, and his former wife, Brenda J. Salerno of Perth Amboy.
Funeral services will be on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at the Church of the Most Holy Rosary of the Good Shepherd Parish in Hopelawn. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to the
