Cynthia Marie Burns, 60, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Ms. Burns was born February 9, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Burns. She was a School Counselor at John F. Kennedy Primary School in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District. Ms. Burns was a resident of Somerset, NJ. She attended St. Matthias Catholic Church. Cynthia was a graduate of Plum Senior High School in Pittsburg, PA. In 1977 she received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Slippery Rock State College in Pennsylvania. After teaching for some time, she earned a Master of Science in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland in 1988. While at Hopkins she earned membership in Chi Sigma Iota counseling academic and professional honor society. Cyndy delighted in family; lovingly raising her daughters Alyssa and Lauren, affectionately caring for her siblings and cherishing moments spent with extended family. One of her favorite things was to organize and host family gatherings. She was our rock, emotionally supporting the whole family and our glue holding us together. Cyn continued close familial relationships with her in laws, Armand and Therese Bedard, their children and grandchildren. She recently enjoyed the birth of her first grandchild, Dylan. Her caring nature was also evident in her work. As a school counselor Cyndy touched the lives of many children. She earned the respect of her peers, many of whom were also good friends. She received a Distinguished Service Award from Bridgewater-Raritan school district for her hard work and devotion to the children. Her adventurous spirit reveled in travels with family and friends. Cyn never shied away from a challenge, faced everything head on and loved creating new experiences.

Cyndy is survived by her daughters Alyssa Englert and her husband Matthew, Lauren Bedard and her significant other Daniel Sigrist, and her grandson Dylan Englert. Also surviving are her siblings Rick Burns and his wife Lucia Droby, Manuel San Gabriel, Jackie Burns, Jeff Burns and his wife Ellen O'Connell, Therae Acevedo and her husband Oscar. Additional survivors include, numerous nieces, nephews and their children, her aunts, uncles and cousins. She is remembered as a loving mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
