Richard J. Lewis, 83, of Camden, NY, died March 12, 2014 at the Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rome, NY, with his wife of 21 years, Gloria Deeley, and two of his daughters, Janet and Jessica, at his bedside. "Dick" lived for the past 30 years in Camden, NY, and was born August 14, 1930 and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ. He was the son of the late J. Arthur Lewis and Loretta Galvin Lewis. Richard was a graduate of Rutgers Preparatory School and Seton Hall University. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953 and served during the Korean War as a First Lieutenant, after which he began his career as an educator in the New York City School District and retired in 1987. He taught for many years at the Mission Mount Loretto Home for Boys in Staten Island.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Deeley Lewis, eight children, daughters Joanne Lewis Dugas, Eleanor Lewis, Janet P. Lewis and Jessica Lewis, and sons, Dr. Richard J. Lewis, Michael Lewis, Christopher Lewis and John Lewis. He is also survived by three stepchildren, David Ackerman, Tamara Stacy and Thomas Ackerman, as well as several grandchildren and a special friend, Bill W.

Funeral services were held in Camden, NY on March 15, 2014. Interment will be May 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the McConnellsville Cemetery in McConnellsville, NY.
