Gaetano "Guy" A. Merola

Gaetano "Guy" A. Merola, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Born in Plainfield and a former resident of South Bound Brook and Bound Brook, he resided in Bridgewater for over 40 years before moving to Raritan five years ago.

Mr. Merola served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Airman First Class.

Mr. Merola was a building developer since the early 1960s and was the owner and operator of Guy A. Merola Custom Builder. Guy's company was the developer of Hoagland Farms and Raritan Plaza.

Guy was a communicant of St. Bernard R.C. Church in Bridgewater.

He was a member of UNICO and the National Italian American Foundation, Washington, DC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pietro and Carmela Mastroianni Merola; his wife, Madeline Green Merola in 2012; his brother, Louis Merola in 2008; and his sister, Rose Risman in 1965.

Surviving are his loving son, Michael Merola and wife, Debbie of Pittstown; his loving daughter, Donna Marie Merola of Raritan; his cherished granddaughter, Anna; his dear brother, Frank Lieto and wife, Barbara of Branchburg; his dear sisters, Julia Risman of Whippany and Anita Ferrante of Toms River; and his sister-in-law, Lucille Merola of Stewart, FL.

Funeral services will begin with a prayer at 9:15 AM on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg, NJ 08876 followed by a 10 AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Bernard R.C. Church, 500 Route 22 East, Bridgewater. Entombment will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge. Viewing hours are Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
