Daniel "Teddy" T. Edson, 77, entered eternal life on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at home with loving family by his side. Born in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Thomas and Sophie (Gifford) Edson, he lived briefly in Bound Brook before settling in Manville. Dan was honorably discharged from the United States Army and National Guard as a sergeant 1st class. He was a member of the 112th Field Artillery Association and was an honorary life member of the Veterans of Manville. Dan retired after spending many years in the trucking industry. He faithfully served his community as a life member and past president of Manville Fire Department #1; he was a member of Manville-Hillsborough Elks #2119 and troop leader of Boy Scout Troop #193 for many years. A few of his passions included hunting, fishing, golfing, trips to the casino, and playing Saturday night cards with his cherished friends. Dan had a love for the outdoors; he was a great outdoors-man. Dan was a heart transplant recipient and was blessed to receive his "new" heart on June 8, 1999. Due to his great fortune, Dan became an avid member of Second Chance Heart Transplant Support Group and proudly served as past president of Second Chance Chapter at Robert Wood Johnson in 2006. He also sat on their Board of Directors.
Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Elizabeth "Snookie" A. Edson with whom he joined hands in marriage on October 12, 1958; two loving sons, Edward Edson and James Edson; dear siblings, Thomas Edson, Constance Custer, Barbara Brown, and Charles Edson. Dan leaves behind to cherish his memory, devoted son, Daniel Edson of Manville; dear brother, William Edson of Tamarac, FL and sister, Patricia Steinbrecher of Fairless Hills, PA. He will be deeply missed by his three adored granddaughters, Cheryl Edson, Amy Edson, and Danielle Edson; precious great granddaughter, Caitlyn and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Friday, July 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, July 19 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19 beginning 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Dan will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at New Cemetery in Somerville. Memorial contributions may be made in Dan's name to Second Chance, 23 Independence Court, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
