George Arthur Ostergren 85, of Hillsborough, NJ, passed away on February 2, 2014. He was born to George and Edna Ostergren on January 14, 1929 in Brooklyn, N.Y. George graduated from Westwood High School in 1947. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He married his high school sweetheart Joanne McIlveen on August 22, 1953, they were married for over sixty years. George earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956 and his Master of Education in 1968, both from Rutgers University. He dedicated almost 30 years serving the students of Rutgers and subsequently received the Presidential Citation for Meritorious Service Award as assistant Vice President at Rutgers, His actions always reflected the highest level of professional responsibility. He retired from the University in June of 1991. George was on both the Hillsborough Township Committee and School Board for many years. He is remembered as a man of integrity and strong opinions with a respect for other points of view, He enjoyed a healthy debate and a good meal. He loved the time spent at the Jersey shore with family and friends. He was a steadfast and loyal husband, loving father and good friend. He always proudly displayed the emblems of the Marine Corps and Rutgers. He will be remembered for his wit and perspicacity (a favorite word of his), and his commitment to education both inside and outside of the classroom. He was well respected by his colleagues, and loved by his family and friends. He was the rock that many counted on and will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his beloved children Colleen and Stephen, his dear daughter-in-law Amy, and his grandchildren Kelly and Sean, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation is planned for Sunday, July 27th from 3:30-5:30 in the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Hwy 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
