Charles M. Lewis, Jr., 88, of Somerset, died July 28, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He had been born in Plainfield and lived in Alta Vista, VA. for 20 years, but most of his life was spent in Piscataway before moving to Somerset 1 month ago. His wife Anne died in 1997 and also a son, the Late Matthew in 1996 and 2 grandchildren the Late Sean and Michael. Charles was a Superintendent for Public works in Piscataway for 35 years before retiring in 1984. He served honorably in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater and the Philippines and China aboard the USS Conundrum. While living in Va. he was a member of St. Victoria Catholic Church in Hurt Va. and the VFW.
Surviving are 5 sons, Charles P. of Gretna, VA., Bruce of Stowe, Pa., Thomas of Piscataway, John of Manville, Paul of Douglasville, Ga., 6 daughters, Anne Marie Ruane of Monroe Township, Margaret Huettenmoser of Somerset, Bernadette Lewis of E. Brunswick, Mary Harned of Bargersville, IN., Catherine Lewis of Deltona, Fl., Regina Carone of Northampton, Pa., 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thurs. 2-4 7-9PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. There will be a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial on Fri. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
