George J. Marinko, 86, of Bridgewater, NJ, died on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, with his family and loved ones gathered by his side.
Visiting will be at the Van Arsdale Funeral Home, 111 North Gaston Ave., Somerville, NJ, on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville, on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., with interment to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Ave., Woodbridge Twp., NJ.
George was born and raised in McAdoo, PA. He was married to his beloved wife, Anna, in 1962, and they settled in Roselle Park, NJ, where they shared their lives until Anna's passing in 1998. In recent years, George lived at Centerbridge Senior Housing in Bridgewater, where he found comfort in many new and meaningful friendships. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, spending much of his military service in Japan. George worked for many years at Fisher Scientific Co. in Springfield, NJ, after having worked previously for Engelhard Industries in Union, NJ.George was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. His commitment to family was evident throughout his life. He also was man of tremendous faith. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph the Carpenter Church in Roselle, NJ. In recent years, he belonged to Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.
George was predeceased by his wife, Anna, and his brother, Joseph. He is survived by his son Stephen, and daughter-in-law, Diane, and their sons, Daniel and Christopher; by his daughter Margaret, and son-in-law, Michael Ciancio, and their son, Corey; and by his son, John, and his partner, Wendy Cinquanta, and their children, Victoria and Reid.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Haiti Solidarity Network of the Northeast, c/o St. Patrick's Rectory, 492 Bramhall St., Jersey City, NJ, 07304, would be appreciated.
