Ronald David Barrett, Esq., died Tuesday, Nov. 11, at his home in West Allenhurst, among his girls: his wife, the former Lois Barr of Asbury Park; Patti Barrett of Tallahassee, Fla.; Laurie Dalton of Long Branch; and Beth Barrett and her partner, Debbie Cavalier, of Watertown, Mass. Mr. Barrett was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Chicago. He moved to Gary, Ind., as a young boy and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1949. In 1953, he graduated from Indiana University, where he was a member of the Sphinx Club, an honorary fraternity, and a member and president of Pi Lambda Phi, where he and Lois met. He served as an Army private from 1953-55, including in Fontainebleau, France, where he was the only member of the 7779 Budget & Fiscal Corps, responsible for setting up new accounting systems throughout Europe. In 1958, he graduated from Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pa., where he was an editor of the Law Review. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, and the U.S. Court of Appeals Third Circuit. Mr. Barrett practiced law in Monmouth County since 1959. He served two terms as the commander of Monmouth Post 125 JWV. He was on the board of the JCC of Deal Park, a past president of Temple Beth El Men's Club, served as attorney for the Township of Ocean Senior Housing, and served many years as the attorney for the Eatontown Senior Citizens' Housing Board. He was a member of the Ocean Township Lions' Club, the Asbury Park Jaycees, and was the last president of the Asbury Park YMCA.
Mr. Barrett was predeceased by his parents, Pearl and Barney; and his sister, her husband and their son, Marcia, Ralph and Bobby King Baker. In addition to Mr. Barrett's wife and three daughters, he is survived by Patti's fiancé, Doug Miller of Tallahassee, Fla.; Laurie's husband, Dave Dalton of Long Branch; his grandchildren, Morgan and Gabrielle and Kyle and Jami; his brother, Alan Barrett of Kenosha, Wis.; his sister, Brenda Strimling; and his sister, Dr. Ramsey Pevsner of Hollywood Beach, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Temple Beth Miriam, Lincoln Avenue, Elberon. Shiva will be at the Barrett residence in West Allenhurst. Donations to the Hole in the Wall Gang Fund, 555 Long Worth Drive, New Haven, CT 06511, would be appreciated. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township, is in charge of arrangements.
