Kamel A. Katen, 87, died on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the New Jersey Veterans Home at Menlo Park. Born in Iselin, he resided in Woodbridge most of his life. Mr. Katen, along with his brother, Alfred, owned and operated K. Katen Company, a linen importing firm in New York City for 40 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge; a United States Army veteran of World War II; and belonged to the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Katen was predeceased by his loving wife, Ruth Peterson Katen, in 1992; two sisters, Mary Katen and Lilly Leisen; and three brothers, Edward, Alfred and Howard Katen. He is survived by two daughters, Beth Geiger, of Union and Joyce Debrowski, of Sykesville, MD; two grandsons, Evan Kamel Geiger and Jonathan Peter Debrowski; three sisters, Gladys Haddad, Victoria Madsen and her husband, Mogens and Evelyn Short; two brothers, Victor Katen and his wife, Jeanette and Kenneth Katen and his wife, Joan; a dear friend, Clare Masyada; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge. Interment will follow in Cloverleaf Memorials Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www.costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.
