Charles J. Mayer, 79, of Lakewood, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2010, at the Van Dyke Hospice Center, Toms River. Charles was a Mosquito Control Commissioner for Ocean County. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Island Heights. He was a member of the Garden State Boat Modelers, and a former Vice-President of the Battle Ship NJ Historical Museum Society. He was also a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 18 F&AM of Toms River. Charles was born in Kearny, NJ and lived most of his life in Toms River and Island Heights, moving to Harrogate in Lakewood in 2006.
He was predeceased by his brother, David Mayer and his sister, Jean Mayer. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Winship Mayer; two sons, Burt Mayer of Toms River and Harry Mayer of Medford, NJ; and two cherished granddaughters, Christina and Kimberly.
