William O. Nooney, 84, of the Lake Ridge section of Toms River, passed away Saturday at the Shorrock Gardens Care Center in Brick, NJ. Born in Newark, he was a resident of Edison, NJ before moving to Toms River 15 years ago. William was a graduate of King's Point Merchant Marine Academy and also attended Iowa State University's Industrial Engineering Program. He served during the Korean War with the US Navy. He was a member of the first Presbyterian Church of Metuchen for 61 years. William was a member of the Metuchen Kiwanis Club, the Lake Ridge Men's Club, and a past secretary treasurer of the NJ Bell Bowling League. He was an avid golfer and a bowling enthusiast.
Brother of the late Guy H. Nooney, he is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Janice Robinson Nooney; two sons, William W. Nooney and his wife Faye of Parker, CO and Mark R. Nooney and his wife Jeanne of Burlington, NJ; and four grandchildren, Katie, William, Melissa, and Timothy.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, Rte. 70 & Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave./Bob Hope Rd., Miami, FL 33136-1494.
