JOHN V. CASALE
AGE: 84 WATCHUNG
John V. Casale, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was born July 4, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to Vincent and Josephine LaPlaca Casale. He was raised in Brooklyn and had been a resident of Watchung more than 50 years. John worked with his father at Vincent Casale & Co., a cake decorations business in North Plainfield for many years. He later, with his wife, Anne, owned the Bazaar-Bizarre store in Plainfield, a specialty gift store including "Annie's Kitchen" for a number of years before retiring. He was a long time member of St. Mary's Church-Stony Hill in Watchung and a long time member of the Valley Players of Watchung where he used his artistic gifts for many productions over the years. He served as a councilman and police commissioner in Watchung. John was an Army Air Corps Veteran and had served during WWII.
John was the husband of Anne Lovi Casale who died Dec. 2, 2002 to whom he had been married more than 50 years. He was the brother of the late Antoinette Lipani, Angela Castronovo, Zina Lipani and Vera Gelardi. His family includes 2 daughters, Joanne Casale of Stewartsville and Amy Casale and her husband, Barry Miller of Furlong, PA; two grandsons, John Paul Murphy and Colin Murphy and 2 great grandchildren, Nickayla and John Paul Vincenzo, and nephews and nieces.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church-Stony Hill, 225 Mountain Blvd., Watchung on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at 11:00am. Cremation was private. The family has requested that donations may be made in his memory to the Hole in the Wall Gang Fund, 555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven, CT 06511.
