John L. Berg, 90, of the Homestead section of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 23, 1920 and was the eldest son of the late Hans and Elisa Berg. He was resident of Piscataway and Watchung before moving to Columbus, NJ in 1989. John was employed by Unisys Corporation in Warren, NJ and retired in 1974. He was an Army Lt. Col. who served in Europe during WWII with the 7th Army. He retired in 1967 after a long distinguished military career both in active duty and the New Jersey National Guard.
John is survived by his wife, Louise, of 64 years; daughter Constance Richardson; daughter and son-in-law Joan and Lud Csekey; son and daughter-in-law John II and Sandy Berg; six grandchildren Scott, Beth, Christopher, Adalise, Callie, and Jack; four great-grandchildren Rachel, Amanda, Olivia, and Isabel. John was pre-deceased by his brothers George, Arthur, and Albert.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday January 19th at 1130 AM at the LEE FUNERAL HOME, 317 High St., Mt. Holly. Relatives and Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday January 18th from 2-4PM, 7-9PM and Wednesday January 19th 11-11:30AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle's Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140-4131. Arrangements were made with Edward V. Kaelin III at the LEE FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Holly, NJ.
