Karen A. Bowers died on Friday evening, Feb. 18, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Born in New Brunswick NJ, Mrs. Bowers lived in Highland Park, Omaha NE, and Murrayville PA. before returning to her brother's home in Somerset. Karen was married for 34 years to her beloved John (Buddy) Bowers who passed in 2007. She lost her father, Richard in 1980, her mother, Rita in 2005, and her brother, Kevin in 2008. Karen is survived by her brother Richard of Somerville; Scott and his wife Barbara and their six children, Andrew, Colin, Justine, Kurtis, Ian, and Morgan. Her niece Lauren and her mother Doreen, of Cape May, also survive her. Aunt Karen will be profoundly missed by each of her nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bowers was a great animal lover who enjoyed spending the day at the barn with her horse. Karen also spent countless hours gardening. She tended to her flowers and plants that she lovingly planted each season. She took especially great care of the trees that she and Buddy planted in their yard. Another source of pride for Karen was the homes that she beautifully decorated. She had a great eye for design and was always available to paint or shop with a friend for their homes. Karen leaves behind an impressive amount of lifelong, as well as new friends, each of who has their own personal relationship with her. She had the incredible knack of making every person she knew feel very blessed to be her friend.
Services will begin on Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset followed by a 9 AM funeral mass at St. Matthias Church in Somerset. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in New Brunswick. Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 on Tuesday at the Gleason Funeral Home.
