Mr. James Rochford, died Saturday morning, at the Francis E. Parker Home in Piscataway. He was 76. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Rochford raised his family in Williston Park, Long Island. After 35 years with the New York Telephone Company, he retired to Hawley, PA before coming to Somerset. Mr. Rochford served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a parishioner of St. Aidan"s on Long Island, Queen of Peace in Hawley, and St. Matthias in Somerset. Mr. Rochford was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Boy Scout Troop leader. He was a marathon runner, avid outdoorsmen, golfer, and bowler. He was a kind and generous man, and a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Rochford was predeceased by his sister Patricia. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carole (Bergner) Rochford; his sons James Rochford and his wife Mary of Bayside, NY, and John Rochford and his wife Kathleen of Durham, NH; his daughters Christine Edmonds and her husband Charles of Rocky Point, NY, and Catherine Martino and her husband Charles of Hillsborough, NJ; his sisters Joan and Carolanne, and his 8 grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 9am Wednesday at St. Matthias R.C. Church in Somerset. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 on Tuesday at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset, NJ 08873.
